Taking Sides: Conflict in South Africa 1984-1986: An Afrapix exhibition

The exhibition was compiled with photographs from the Afrapix collective, with the assistance of Oxfam, Canada. They depict images of conflict, funerals, youth, labour and culture vs Apartheid South Africa.

Brochure which was published and sold for the benefit of the Strike Victims Dependants Relief Fund, by the Committee.

Included in the publication is the print of a photograph of General Jan Smuts at the age of 29, with a note that the authenticity of the portrait has been questioned. Further included a sketch by Jim Edwards, entitled 'Killed at Benoni, March 1922, and listing the victims.

Correspondence with Helen Suzman, May 1962 in relation to the Transkei Emergency Regulations, SAIRR, April 1962, as well as her question asked in Parliament; Orders under the Regulations for the administration of the Transkeian Territories, by K. Matanzima, 13 January 1961.

Some of the Afrapix photographers have deposited their collections at the University of Cape Town, where there have been digitised and made available as part of the UCT Libraries Digital Collections.
